Our Flag banner design

Homepage

For our CyberFair project, we chose to learn about our flag.

What is a flag, and why are there flags? Here is some of the basic information we discussed and shared:

  • a flag is a symbol, an emblem, that represents something or some group
  • countries and states have flags
  • a flag is made of cloth, with certain colors, and usually has some shapes or pictures on it
  • flags have been used by people for thousands of years (Roman Empire, Tibetan prayer flags, etc.)
  • we feel good and proud when we see our flag
  • our flag reminds us of who we are, our history, and people who are no longer here
  • some special holidays when our flag is used are: Independence Day (July 4th), Presidents' Day (the third Monday in February), Memorial Day (the last Monday in May), and Flag Day (June 14th).
  • we see our flag flown from flagpoles in front of public buildings, at special events (sports meets, concerts, graduations, etc), , hung in front of houses, as stickers on cars, on jewelry, and on clothing.

Inspire and Unite!

We think our topic fits this year's CyberFair theme. Our flag is a symbol that inspires and unites us as Americans. Our flag's history makes us feel proud, and reminds us of how our country started. The 13 stripes remind us of the first 13 colonies. The stars remind us of the 50 different states that are the United States today. Our flag reminds us of our freedoms and rights. It reminds us of people who died in wars. Our flag is also special because it changed as our country grew and changed. In the future our flag may change again.

We hope you enjoy our site!

An emblem is an object that represents a group like a family, an organization or a country. When I look at the flag, it makes me happy.
