Breyers Ice Cream trademark logo

Who started the business?
William A. Breyer

When did Breyers Ice Cream start?
In 1866.

Where did the business start?
In William Breyer's home kitchen in Philadelphia.

How did he start his business?
William Breyer hand cranked his first ice cream using all natural ingredients. He sold the ice cream to people in the neighborhood out of a horse drawn wagon. The wagon was pulled by his white horse named Peacock.

In 1882 William Breyer opened a retail ice cream shop.

After his death his sons continued the business.

In 1896 Breyers Ice Cream needed a wholesale manufacturing plant.

The business continued to expand. It was a good product and people loved it!

How did the company get the Breyers leaf logo?
The leaf logo was designed by Henry Breyer (William's son). Most people think it's a mint leaf but really it's a briar bush leaf.

Breyers Ice Cream Today . . .
Breyers Ice Cream is no longer owned and operated by the Breyer's family, and it is no longer made in Philadelphia.

Today Breyers Ice Cream is owned by Unilever. It is part of the Gold Bond-Good Humor Ice Cream Company in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Breyers still makes all natural Ice Cream, along with some other frozen desserts. It is manufactured at plants in several different states (Massachusetts, Indiana., Mo., and Nevada).
