The Tasty Baking Company began in Philadelphia.
In 1914 a baker named Phillip J. Baur and an egg salesman named Herbert T. Morris started the business.
They wanted to make cakes that were small, using only fresh and natural ingredients.
Mrs. Morris tried some of the first ones and said the cakes were "tasty", so they called them "Tastykakes".
Tastykakes became a hit. The business grew. New cakes were introduced - chocolate juniors, cupcakes, and butterscotch krimpets.
In the 1930s, individually packaged small pies were introduced. They became very popular.
Today, Tastykakes are not only being sold in the Philadelphia area, they're being sold mostly throughout the U.S.A.
So when you have a Tastykake, think of the people who started this successful company. Tastykakes are still inexpensive snacks, made from natural ingredients, that go well in today's world of fast food.
Tastykakes are #1 in Philadelphia's pastry department in a delicious manner!
