An animal shelter is a place where stray and unwanted animals are taken to and provided with food and housing.
In Camden County there are several animal shelters:
- ANIMAL ORPHANAGE (AO), located in Voorhees
- WEST JERSEY ANIMAL SHELTER (WJAS), located in Pennsauken
- CAMDEN COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER & ADOPTION CENTER (CCHS), located in Blackwood
- SOCIETY TO PROTECT ANIMALS (SPA), located in Carney's Point
- ANIMAL ADOPTION CENTER, located in Lindenwold
- ANIMAL WELFARE ASSOCIATION (AWA), located in Voorhees
We visited two of them, the West Jersey Animal Shelter and the Animal Welfare Association. Click here to begin learning about our fieldtrips to these shelters.
We also reviewed and discussed animal shelter statistics available online from the State of New Jersey. Mike made charts to illustrate this information. Click here to see them.
